Custom Weathering Services
About Us
Throughout the construction of my model railroad, the Sierra Central Railway, I have honed in my techniques with weathering both locomotives and rolling stock. Now I wish to offer my services to anyone looking to turn their plastic models into realistic representations of locomotives, rolling stock, etc. My preferred tools are a single-action airbrush with Vallejo paints, Monroe Models weathering powders, and Vallejo model colors for dry brushing. I base my painting/weathering techniques off of the likes of Malcolm Furlow, Jim Hediger, and Gordon Odegard, as well as videos such as those by NSModeller24 on YouTube, along with many others.
Weathering Services
Different equipment requires different weathering techniques depending on equipment type, age, geographic location, environment, etc. Please peruse our services to see what fits best for you.

Diesel Locomotives
I offer weathering services for any and all types of diesel locomotives, from EMD to ALCO, switcher to passenger, etc. All customers have the options of light, regular, or heavy weathering, depending on their preferences.

Steam Locomotives
Weathering, as with any piece of equipment, can particularly enhance a steam locomotive. As with all other products, I offer light, regular, and heavy weathering options for steam engines.

Prototype
Looking to replicate an exact locomotive or piece of rolling stock? Through extensive research, and exact weathering techniques, I accurately replicate just about any locomotive or car you want.
Rolling Stock
As with all other services, I offer light, regular, and heavy weathering for all rolling stock, including all types of freight cars, cabooses, passenger cars, etc.

Painting:
At the moment I am able to basic one or two color repaints of freight cars. I will offer this service once I properly learn the techniques to painting complex custom paint jobs.
Layout Design:
I will offer this service once I have found and learned a layout design software as well as furthered my knowledge in the elements of layout design and operations.
Pricing
These are the baseline prices for my services. Items such as shipping, tax, and extra materials such as decal sheets are not included and will be determined on an individual basis.

Rolling Stock Weathering
All rolling stock of all types and levels of weathering. Price is per individual piece.

Locomotives
All locomotives of all types and all weathering techniques. Price is per unit.

Extra Additions
These include but are not limited to, decals, patch jobs, upgrading to Kadee Couplers, and graffiti.
How It Works
When I'm contacted for a project I will first work with the customer to determine the level of weathering desired, along with any additional services such as coupler upgrades, etc.
At that point the customer will ship their model to me. Upon me receiving the model I will perform the weathering as outlined. While it may take mere hours to complete the actual weathering process on a piece of rolling stock or locomotive, it may be a week or more for the item to be shipped, additional materials arrived, paint to dry, etc.
Once the model is complete, I will notify the customer who will then send the final payment (baseline price plus any extra additions, materials, as well as tax and shipping).
Products will not be shipped out until the final payment is received.
